PYP students stage a production on environmental issues
With the theme “Hope, Better As One, Sharing the Planet,” Grades 1 – 4 students of the Primary Years Programme (PYP) showcased their learning on environmental issues through skits, dance and song numbers, last April 17 at the Chong Pai Hun Theater Hall.
The production opened with the students’ portrayal of a Hopean class. One student played the role of an HCHS teacher, facilitating her class on a film-viewing of nature and conservation. This HBO-like presentation set the tone of the productions.
In Vigor’s segment, Grade 4 students retold the story of Joseph and his dream. They portrayed the seven years of abundance and seven years of famine, as narrated in the Bible, and highlighted the importance of using God’s blessings wisely by conserving these resources.
In relation to their lesson on conserving water, G2 Production shed light on how water keeps plants, animals, and people thriving. Grade 2 students’ showcase entitled, “The Last Drop: Save Water, Save Lives,” depicted how people waste and pollute water. In one of their performances, they also showed the audience that everyone can help save water by simply turning off the water tap.
Through Biodiversity Blitz: Rise of the Go Guardians, Grade 3 students tackled biodiversity and the issue of land pollution. Through the characters of Eco Superheroes, they demonstrated the role of individuals in preserving the environment as the natural habitat of diverse creatures. Meanwhile, the Grade 1 students grounded their production in Genesis 2:15 and emphasized human stewardship of God’s creation. They reminded everyone that it is humans’ God-given duty to cultivate and to take care of the earth.
The series of productions concluded with a collective performance of the PYP students. They campaigned the event’s theme and stressed, “With God above, there is hope! Hearts for earth, join the force! Hope, Better as One!”
In a closing message, School Principal Dr. Angeline Tan congratulated the students for a well-executed show. She also reiterated that while the roles of everyone are different, all are important in fulfilling a shared purpose.
