SUMMER INTERACTIVE PROGRAM 2018

Hope Christian High School Summer Interactive Program 2018 has come to a close.  The program helped students of varying ages, and interests to enjoy many learning experiences and memories.

SUMMER FUN

The program highlights activities for children from 2-3 ½ years old.  This year’s Summer Fun theme is COLORS. Children were taught primary and secondary colors. Activities include circle time, crafts, storytelling, and outdoor fun.  These activities aim to develop children’s gross and fine motor skills, socialization, and attention span.

SUMMER READING PROGRAM

This year’s Summer Reading Program has two levels: READING FUN and ADVANCED READING.

Reading Fun emphasized the blending of CVC pattern (Consonant Vowel Consonant).  There were storytelling, craft, songs, and worksheets to answer.  Students were familiarized with some sight words.  The class ended with a cooking activity.

Advanced Reading included a diagnostic assessment to gauge the students’ reading ability.  There were reading comprehension activities, taught to teach students long and short vowel sound, as well as consonant blend.  A puppet show ended the class.

ADVANCED MATH (for incoming Grade 1 and incoming Grade 7-10)

Advanced Math was offered to assist incoming Grade 1 students.  Students were given a diagnostic assessment to check their math skills.  Familiarization from numbers 1-100, counting by tens and ones, place value, comparing and ordering, addition and addition concept, as well as subtraction concepts were some of the things the students learned during the program.

Advanced Math for incoming Grade 7-10 aims to provide advanced skills in Mathematics in preparation for the next school year’s Math subject.

ROBOTICS

The Robotics program aims to introduce students to basic programming, and problem solving strategies.  Students get involved in developing, building, and programming of LEGO Mindstorm robot using Robolab software and various LEGO Robotics materials.  The program emphasized motor control, gear ratios, torque, friction, sensors, timing, program loops, logic gates, decision-making, timing sequence, and propulsion systems.

ENGINEERING FOR KIDS (ROBOTICS and AEROSPACE)

Engineering for Kids Robotics (catered to kids 4-8 years old) and Engineering for Kids Aerospace (catered to kids 7-12 years old) taught children to create, to design, to program, and to manipulate their own creations like car, and a variety of flying vehicles.

CHINESE PROGRAMS

  1. FOR BEGINNERS AND ADVANCED: Chinese classes for ages 5-7 years old in the basic program helped children without Chinese background to speak Mandarin. The Advanced program aims to strengthen students’ Chinese vocabularies. They also learned basic stroke and characters.
  2. BASIC CHINESE LEVEL 1 and 2

This programs teaches about Hanyu Pinyu and Chinese characters, the foundation of Chinese language learning.   Students were trained in Chinese fluency, vocabulary, comprehension, to read, speak, and write basic sentences in Chinese.

  1. BASIC CHINESE FOR ADULTS

This class was offered to help parents and guardians help their children with the Chinese language. Adults were taught Hanyu Pinyin and basic Chinese characters.

BRAINFIT JUNIOR PROGRAM

Brainfit Junior Program, an integrated program that covers 5 brain pillars: Sensory-Motor, Visual, Auditory, Focus, and Emotions.  This program aims to equip preschoolers to have solid learning “engines” upon entering Primary One (Grade 1).

READING ASSISTANT

This program caters to all levels of English language learners.  It aims to strengthen children’s English vocabulary, fluency, and comprehension ability.

Non- academic programs were also offered such as ballet, basketball clinic, chess clinic and taekwondo clinic. Piano and violin lessons, choral, and art classes were offered as well.
