Team Daddy vs Team Mommy: Nursery Special Activity

Team Daddy vs Team Mommy: Nursery Special Activity

Written by Ms. Jackie Lorraine Ty

All of us have our own likes and dislikes, habits and values.  But since all of us are born into a family, it is inevitable that we share similar interests, practices and beliefs with other members of our family.  Our parents could greatly influence who we become.  These are some of the big ideas in the inquiry of the learners in Nursery level.

In the study of how family shapes one’s identity, the learners in Nursery level were also acquainted with one of the Approaches to Learning (ATL), which is an integral part of an IB education.  They specifically began to experience and exercise the research skills like collecting, recording and organizing data.

During the online meetings, the teacher led a survey asking the learners whether they do things with their mother or their father or both.  Questions included: Who sings and dances with you?  Who plays toys and games with you? Who do you watch TV with?  Who cuts your hair? Who brings you to see your doctor?  Afterwards, the learners came up with their own chart by sorting pictures of other family activities that were not talked over as a class.  To cap the unit, the learners were tasked with presenting individually their chart or data.
