Gallery of Purpose and Passion: MYPX 2025

The mission of the International Baccalaureate Middle Years Programme (IB MYP) for Grade 10 students is to develop young people who are inquirers, thinkers, communicators, and compassionate individuals equipped not only with academic excellence but with a desire to contribute meaningfully to the world. The culmination of this five-year journey is the MYP Personal Project, also known as MYPX. The MYPX was organized so that Grade 10 students will each choose to develop a skill based on his/her passion or interest. They will then record their progress and showcase the results of their personal project. For example, a student may choose to develop his/her reading skill as the personal project. Using the Scholastic pre-test at the start of the school year, s/he will know what Lexile (rank) s/he belongs to. Before the end of the school year, s/he will take the Scholastic post-test. The student can then use the post-test results to show his/her success in the personal project.

On May 7–8, 2025, our Grade 10 MYP students rose to this challenge with projects that embodied purpose, intellect, and heart. Grouped into domains such as Sciences, Arts, Music, Sports, and General Studies, each project was a testament to student agency—where learning was not only personalized but deeply meaningful. The following examples show stories of curiosity, resilience, and impact.

Integrating Science and Christianity: Can faith and science coexist? One student boldly explored this complex intersection by interviewing Chinese-Filipino pastors on how they integrate scientific concepts into their sermons. What emerged was a thoughtful and balanced study that navigated the relationship between theology and scientific understanding. Through surveys and qualitative research, the student uncovered the real challenges and breakthroughs in reconciling these two worlds. The result was not just an academic inquiry, but a bridge—uniting perspectives that are often seen in tension, and calling for integration that nurtures both reason and belief.

DIY RC Plane: Another student took to the skies—by designing and building a fully functional remote-controlled airplane. From aerodynamic research to detailed design and hands-on assembly, he embodied the spirit of engineering and perseverance. The final product was more than a machine; it was a soaring symbol of creativity, problem-solving, and the joy of discovery. His eyes lit up as the propellers spun proof that passion and learning make excellent partners. A Journey to Become a Great Investor: In another corner, numbers came alive through a student’s exploration of the world of investing. With planning boards, market simulations, and a clear vision, he demystified financial literacy for his peers. His project wasn’t just about stocks or profit margins—it was about stewardship, strategic thinking, and preparing for the future with wisdom. It was a project grounded in responsibility, and his contagious enthusiasm invited others to see investing as a skill worth mastering.

The Road to Basic Life Support Certification: One student’s project had life-saving implications. Motivated by a deep sense of purpose, she pursued certification in Basic Life Support (BLS), learning everything from CPR to crisis response. Her reflections revealed a newfound confidence and a mission to empower others. Her message was powerful: you don’t need a medical degree to make a difference in an emergency—you just need to be ready, informed, and courageous.

Automated Aquaponics: Sustainability met innovation in a project that combined environmental care with cutting-edge tech. With a working prototype powered by Arduino, a student created an automated aquaponics system where fish and plants coexist in a balanced, self-sustaining ecosystem. His design was more than an agricultural solution—it was a glimpse into the future of food security. The project demonstrated how technology, when used wisely, can serve both people and the planet.

Strings of Praise: With a guitar in hand and faith in his heart, another student embarked on a spiritual and musical journey: learning to play a praise song from scratch. Through determination, daily practice, and deep reflection, he not only developed a new talent but also drew closer to God. His final performance was moving—not just for the music, but for the message. It reminded us all that learning becomes transformative when rooted in worshipping God and personal growth.

Through research, action, and reflection, these young individuals have demonstrated not only intellectual maturity but also moral and spiritual depth. Their projects resonate with the words of Colossians 3:23: Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human masters.

In our Christ-centered IB school, the MYP Personal Project is more than an academic milestone—it is a transformative journey. It allows students to lead their own learning, deepen their faith, and envision how their God-given talents can serve others. Each project becomes a story of character, calling, and commitment. As we celebrate the MYPX 2025, we also celebrate what is truly at the heart of education: students who think deeply, act purposefully, and live faithfully.
