#PAKSALIKSIKSAL.A.: Introduction to Research Title Proposal
Interested in research but don’t know where to start? Fortunately, Grade 10 students are past that hurdle, as their seniors introduced them to the basics of making research proposals.
As a part of their requirements in the Culminating Activity subject, Grade 12 students organized a one-hour discussion on the process of research title-making. The discussion aimed to guide the Grade 10 students in making research title proposals for their MYP 5 Language Acquisition (Filipino) class.
Setting the mood for the research discussions, the student facilitators led the session with an ice breaker. The activity inspired by the “Four Pics, One Word” game challenged the Grade 10 students to give a research title that fit each set of pictures presented on the screen. Based on the students’ answers, the facilitators were able to gauge their prior knowledge in making research titles. The audience was also asked to list the topics they were interested in researching.
The discussion further deepened when the facilitators officially gave the floor to Mr. Alfredo Palma Jr., a Grade 12 Filipino Research Teacher. In his talk, he noted that a research proposal starts with a research topic. Sir Palma, then, shared a few guidelines in choosing a research topic. He mentioned that they should consider the following aspects: the topic of their interest, the significance of the topic, the focus and scope of their study, and the sufficiency of the data that can be gathered for their study.
Following this, Sir Palma invited Adriel Cudia, a Grade 12 TVL student, to explain the process he followed to formulate his research title. He gave them some reminders in formulating research titles, saying that it should be 10-15 words only, clear, and well-defined in terms of scope and limitations. Adriel also shared templates and samples for developing research titles.
As the event ended with a Question and Answer portion, the Grade 10 students did not just gain clarity for their confusions and doubts. They also gained practical knowledge and tools to start the rigorous process of research.
