Investigating Basic Bridge Structures by Rhianne Pocsidio
Students stepped into the role of structural engineers, tasked with researching and evaluating two to three different bridge designs for a major infrastructure project. Their mission: to analyze and compare the structural efficiency of each design, assess their ability to withstand increasing weight loads, and recommend the most effective option.
Through this hands-on investigation, students connected their findings to real-world applications—demonstrating how engineering decisions impact strategic urban planning and the development of sustainable, resilient infrastructure. This project encouraged critical thinking about how complex systems interact, helping students understand the global challenges of urbanization and the importance of building stronger, more adaptable communities.
