Hope Christian High School (HCHS) did it again at the 35th season of the Filipino Chinese Amateur Athletic Federation (FCAAF) last August 20, 2011 at the Uno High School gymnasium with a final score of 61-54 against Chiang Kai Shek College.
Led by Reymond Tan, Hope’s team captain, and the youngest player in the bench, Jose Go IV, who sizzled with five threes made HCHS victorious. Goldwyn Montiverde, of Chiang Kai Shek College joined his team and fought for the crown, while John Paul Nieles, together with Carlo Young gave their best by leading their team in the offense end. But it wasn’t just enough to lift up their team.
With the absence of two valuable players, Hope Christian didn’t lose hope. Janrey Garrido and Edralin Villanueva weren’t able to play because of health issues. But on the brighter side, it helped the other players realize that they need to step up more. Clint Doliguez gave all from his arsenal, neutralizing the game with 10 boards, as well as the other players whether in the bench or on the court, making up their minds that they needed to fill in the spaces that there two teammates had left.
With the five assistant coaches led by Stevenson Tiu, they gave their full dedication and support by spending time for the better strategies, and for the team to win the game. “Reward para sa ating lahat ito,” said Head Coach Stevenson Tiu. “Kinulang tayo ng dalawang players, pero hindi rason yun para matalo tayo. Naniwala tayo at pinatunayan na kaya natin.”
This is the 17th game winning streak for Hope Christian since last season. Despite the titles, every practice time is a time for seriousness, dedicating for the team, giving all their best to help each other turn their weaknesses into strengths. More games are needed to conquer. Too much pressure to handle, but all of this will not be carried by one…two…or 12 people. We, the Hope community, should continue to support our own team - for impossible is nothing, if we just live what we believe.
