The annual Buwan ng Wika 2011 celebration featured the best-dressed awards (both for the elementary and high school levels), bestdressed teachers, Filipino games, essay and poem contests, as well as poster-making contests.
The Theatre Hall was spotted with high school students with their dazzling “Philippine National Costumes.” The award for the best attire in high school this year went to Angelie Ang of the juniors. She was also the emcee for the celebration, and she has back-to-back titles for the Best Costume Award.
Her award winning dress was the Maria Clara-themed dress with complete props --- an umbrella and the matching tiger’s eye jewelry and color matched earrings.
From the seniors, Grace Sy won with a very simplistic dress. Though she is a foreign student, she still participated in the contest which impressed the judges.
From the sophomores, Rose Marie bagged the award through her elegant and pretty Maria Clara-themed pink dress, also with an umbrella that has a simple and pleasant design.
The last but not the least from the freshmen is Micah Chua, who won with her authentic Philippine Flag-themed dress. The gentlemen likewise, are as equally impressive with their respective barongs.
For the teachers, the best costume on the men’s division was the returning teacher, Mr. Salvador Agunat with his respectable barong; on the other hand on the women’s division, Mrs. Janeth Tecson won with her gentle aquasilk top and black pants.
For Palarong-Pambansa category, Don Mendoza from the juniors won all the games he participated in, thanks to his athletic skills.
Martin Sy took home the title “The Strongest Student of Hope Christian High School” by winning the Tagisan ng Lakas (arm wrestling match).
Moving on to the poster-making, the winners showed great works of art. Their pieces were indeed spectacular, colorful, and very meaningful. On the poem writing
category, the winners deserved their awards as their messages and structures were clean, imaginative and figurative.
In the essay writing category, the submissions were excellent and sensible. They successfully made their readers interested in their magnificent works.
The event was a success and the awarding was fair and just. The year 2011 seems to be a favorable year for HCHS due to its incredible success. We will be expecting more triumphant and fruitful events in the months to come.
