With various ethnic Filipino costumes seen all over the school, wherein students, as well as the personnel bore the theme “Wikang Filipino, Wikang Panlahat, Ilaw at Lakas sa Tuwid na Landas”, celebrated the once-in-ayear festivity of the school, the Linggo ng Wika, last August 26 at the Pre-school Theatre Hall and Basketball Gym.
Ladies wore different types of Filipiñana apparel, while most gentlemen wore barong tagalogs or the farmer’s outfit (magsasaka).
The pre-school gym was adorned by colourful banners. Festive stalls were set up in celebration of the event, Filipino delicacies like Sorbetes ice cream, ice candy, bibingka, and turon (fried banana) were some of the sumptuous food that was offered.
The Filipino subject mentors, Ms. Imelda Ballesteros and Mr. Alfredo Palma, Jr. organized several competitions like the essay contest, poetry contest and the poster-making contest, as well as a best in costume contest.
Native Filipino games like sipa and pukpok palayok were enjoyed by the eager students. All students eagerly participated in the festivity.
During the program, students from elementary to high school showcased their talents with drama, speeches, singing and dance productions to further highlight Philippine culture.
Aside from all that, Hope Christian High School also coordinated programs related to our Filipino language to let our students know its importance.
Students learned about the historical way of living of the Filipinos, and had the opportunity to experience it firsthand. The event indeed was a blast, and as early as now, they are eager to participate once again for the following year’s celebration.
