From academics to rural

STA. MARIA, BULACAN – Bound for another educational excursion, the high school students and faculty of Hope Christian High School went on its annual field trip wherein they visited different places like the San Gregorio Farm, the KKK museum, and the Quezon Memorial.

The first place visited was the San Gregorio Farm, where the students stayed the longest, because the place provided an experience of life in the rural area or farmlands.

Here, the students went fishing, rode on the zip line, went rock climbing, crossed the narrow bridge, and learned the time-tested recipe of making pastillas. Among these, cow milking was the most unique experience.

According to the high school supervisor, Mr. Andres Ilocto, the field trip was better than last year’s. “The high school students were able to arrive earlier (than last year),” Ilocto said. “They were able to visit the farm and they were able to see the nature and experience milking a cow.”

It is a rare opportunity to have a firsthand experience in milking cows, because people normally buy milk from the supermarkets.

Some people only know how to make milk from powder, which is why HS students were fortunate to see cow milking for themselves.

The high school students also learned how to make natural pastillas. According to the speaker, two ingredients are sufficient to make good pastillas: carabao’s milk (which is the sweetest choice of milk) and sugar. Though it will take at least 45 minutes to just stir the milk and sugar.

The students also enjoyed fishing and at the same time, getting some tan. Even though some didn’t get to catch any fish, they still had fun when they saw their proud friends holding fishes up on their poles.

In the San Gregorio Farm, some had phobias in heights so they tried using the zip line, wall climbing, and the crossing narrow bridge to conquer their fear.
