Hope Alumnus Donates New School Bus

This is another testimony of God’s unending faithfulness and grace to Hope Christian High School!

Last May 17, 2011 Hope Christian High School acquired a new 31-seater school bus donated by Mr. Allen Roxas, a member of batch ’60.The cutting of ribbon and turn over ceremony of the 31-seater bus was headed by our Principal Dr. Cecilio Pedro,

together with the Chairman of the Board of Trustees, Mrs. Basilisa Ho, former Chairman and Principal, Mrs. Magdalena Go Uy, Alumni President Mr. Stephen Sia, alumni Harry Chong, Judy Tan, Naty Dy, Chan Eng Kuan, faculty, and students.

When asked why Mr. Roxas chose to donate a  bus for Hope, he answered that there is a need for the school to have a new bus after 21 years. He said, “Hope needs a new bus for academic contests, sports events such as basketball  and volleyball.” He further explained that all his businesses including his life are gifts from God.

According to Mr. Ilocto, the high school supervisor, “The new bus can accommodate more students and faculty members who are going for sports and academic competitions, educational trips  and seminars.”

“Mahalaga po ito sa team,” said Raymond Tan, captain ball of Hope Basketball Varsity. “Kasi kapag nagtravel kami sa malayo, comfortable kami at makikita ng lahat na new ang bus natin.”

Prior to the new shuttle, the school had only one bus to provide  transportation for the students and teachers. The old bus was acquired in 1990 and Mr. Roxas saw the need to have a new one.

In his speech, the donor also urged the alumni to give more to Hope because they were  once educated by this institution and it is one way for them to give back to the school something they achieved in life that could benefit  the students. “The Chinese schools in Binondo are becoming competitive, so I urge my fellow alumni to support our Alma Mater,” Roxas said. With a smile  he added that it was his mother’s advice that he should be willing to give more to the school which is a venue for the students to know Christ.

According to Dr. Cecilio Pedro, principal of HCHS, the donation of the new bus points to the direction where he wants HOPE to go because we are promoting changes for the new school year. “It is a step in the right direction because we are upgrading. . .it is part of the hardware upgrade,” the principal said.

After Mr. Allen Roxas started the engine, the school administrators, board of trustees and the alumni had their first joy ride around Masangkay and Benavidez street while the others took their snacks as they waited for their turn.

To God be the glory!
